Interests: I'm a total geek, and I love it that way. I like dealing with computer things, like hardware and software related things, and the occasional foray into consumer electronics (whenever I can afford it). Music, reading, investing, and watching anime are among the others.
Expertise: Doing basic engineering crap, and not building cars and imagining new technologies, I'm just not that smart. I do like reading about politics and technology bytes on the free hours, and take an active interest in investing and business news.

Going Abroad

Yeah, so I'm heading off to Oslo, Norway for a job with my company.  Six months to a year.  In Europe.  Shit yeah.

Holiday Bowling

I know I said I was going to post pictures from San Diego on my last post, so here they are, in all their wondrous glory!

We stayed in the Marriott Gaslamp, which is right in the middle of Downtown San Diego, and incidentally, right across the street from Petco Park, where the Padres play.  Too bad it's winter, or we'd have...well, a mostly obscured baseball game.

Next stop:  San Diego Zoo.  Yes, its the great big pink flamingos schmoozing with the ducks.  Yay for poultry!

And now, for some big ass gorillas.  Nothing between them and me, except of course a half-inch thick plate of glass.

Here I am in front of the Hippo aquarium.  I'll give you a sec to think about what his name is (hint, the answer is at the end of this post).

The smelliest part of the trip around the Zoo, bar none.  But there's nothing like a bunch of dead elephants (hint hint: Dead Aggies, Whoop!) walking around taking pictures of real life elephants.

Ok, this is seriously the sweetest menu I've ever seen.  The restaurant had a great atmosphere, was in the middle of Downtown San Diego (walking distance from the hotel of course), and it had this menu.  No, that's not wood, its freaking COPPER.  If it wasn't the most awesome menu I've seen, it's definitely the heaviest.

Mr. David Anderson, umpteenth-string half-back for the Texas A&M football team enjoys his margarita.

Me and David with a parting shot before he headed off to the hotel.

.....which, by the way, was this hotel.  Lucky bastard

Game time baby!!  Here's the giant American flag that the Marine Corps unveils before the beginning of the game.  Freaking huge.

A&M & Cal matching up on the field during the first half.

This looks very familiar, the Block T.  Whoop!!

Substitute the name "The University of California Marching Band" with "The University of Texas Longhorn Band"; it's all the same shit no matter who you look at.
Well, we all know how this game ends, 45-10.  Its worse when you have to sit through the game and watch the mayhem in person.  Ah well, it's the good ole disappointing Aggies that I know and love.

Here is the trivia answer of the day.

That about does it, San Diego a really neat city, would like to go back.  And let's hope that next year when the Aggies play in their bowl game they decide to actually show up.  We all know what happens when a team decides to take a holiday before their game

So I figure that enough time has passed that it justifies a new Xanga entry.  Here it goes again

It's Hanukah time again, and I admit it's not nearly as much fun when its just me lighting the candles and saying the prayers.  I always like the years when we had gift sharing, eating latkes, and breaking the pinata at Hillel, but I guess it'll have to do for now.  I haven't gotten anything for Hanukah yet, probably owing to the fact that whatever I would like as a gift (See here, here, and here) is a bit expensive and probably something I could afford myself.

In other news, I'll be heading off to San Diego on the 26th to see the Aggies play in the Holiday Bowl, WHOOP!  A bunch of us Sammy's figured that this was one of the best bowls we've been to in a long time, and it was worth the trip to see sunny San Diego.  I will be sure to take pictures and post them up here to express the pure awesomeness that is Bowl Season.

The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me

I don't normally gush about certain bands, as I've become accustomed to hearing the same music come from my favored bands.  Perhaps this is an indication of a larger trend, but I'll ignore that for now and simply write the raves about the latest album from Brand New called "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me".

So far four songs have made it out into the open on Bittorrent, and upon first and second listening, they are amazing.  This is coming from a band whose debut album was the typical pop-punk riff you would expect from bands like The Starting Line and Taking Back Sunday.  They followed up with an album that is probably one of the best redefinitions of a band's sounds since Weezer's Pinkerton, a move from radio-friendly pop-songs to the dark and brooding musical feel that has allowed the band to flourish.  The new album follows in that vein, and expands on it considerably.  The cover is probably best indicative of the general feel of the album, that of a cloudy, autumn day with a general feeling of emptiness.  Best track on the album (thus far) is "Archers".
